After an epic SFP Cup weekend, 3 of the 4 Semi Final places have been claimed. The final spot is awaiting a replay between Spartak and Lokomotiv Magicmen.
It was a weekend for the underdogs as lower league opposition ousted teams further up the table or Cup favourites.
Jiangsu Munson clawed back a two goal deficit from the 1st leg before Butt Kickers Man Utd pairing of Martial and McTominay restored the advantage. Favourites Top Heavy FC were held to a 1:1 draw by Perdoc Byzeusthians, who find themselves in their second semi final of the season.
Finally, Crockford’s Crackers put 3 past Knees Don’t have Eyes UC to produce a 5:3 aggregate score and send manager Crockford into his first SFP Cup semi final appearance since 2003. Dare we suggest they might even be favourites having scored the most goals in the tournament so far (22) with an average of 2.4 goals per game?
Unfortunately, we are now living in uncertain times, and the Crackers Chief feels this may be the end for this years competition:
"In response to how Crackers feel about our semi final appearance I would say that we are delighted to have got this far. However I now feel that we will struggle to get three more straight forward game weekends played to complete the cup, as so many clubs have Covid 19 problems and games will nearly all be postponed or called off. Chelsea, Arsenal, Leicester, Man City have all announced problems, meaning at least 4 games off this weekend. You can’t play a fair cup match on that basis as one team may have all their stars missing when their opponents have a full squad playing."
"Who knows what will happen, and even if the season will ever get completed. I’d say it won’t be long until a complete halt is called to the premier league, either self imposed or with the government stepping in. I guess it will be up to the SFP powers that be to decide how to complete the season.”
